5 Healthy On-the-Go Food Options

Busy, busy, busy— Our generation in a nutshell. Like most of society, I feel like I’m constantly on the go trying to balance school, work, chores, cat naps, and a social life (I like to pretend I have one of these). As someone who would like to practice what they preach, I shamefully admit how hard healthy eating can be when you just don’t have time to shop & prepare homemade meals every day.  Lately, however, I have been taking mental notes of a few quick and easy food options a busy-someone could purchase to make their lives a little easier & a lot more healthy:)  Here are a few items that I’m a little in love with right now:

#1 Miniature Cucumbers

Ok… Did you guys know that these existed?! I feel like the world’s worst dietetics major because I had no idea that these were a thing until recently. Whomp whomp. I found these at my local Kroger in a pack of four, priced around 2-3 dollars. These little guys make for an amazing healthy snack, one that can easily fit in a zip-lock baggy and be taken to go. Throw them in with other veggies of your choosing. I usually add cherry tomatoes and sugar snap peas into mine. With this, I also bring a pack of on-the-go hummus or Wholly Guacamole for dipping, which can help add some extra protein and/or healthy fats into your daily diet!

#2 Love Beets

Don’t knock it ’til you try it! Beets are a great source of vitamin C, iron and magnesium, and are extra high in dietary fiber, folate, and potassium. Love Beets has a few flavors that you can pick from. My personal favorite is mild vinegar, but hey! Whatever floats your boat. You can pick these up in the produce isle of your local Kroger for around 2 dollars a pack. I promise these make for a great tasting snack and are so easy to grab and take on the go— just don’t forget your fork or you might end up with purple fingers (trust me… I know).

#3 LUVO Frozen Entrees

Although a little on the pricier side, these frozen entrees are a great option for all the busy (or just really single) people like me who may not have time to cook. By no surprise, you will notice that the biggest problem when trying to find a “healthy” frozen meal is finding one that is low in sodium or saturated fat. From what I have seen, Luvo sports a pretty low content in both of these areas when compared to competitors, all while attaining a fresh and high quality-taste. Luvo has many products ranging from breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. I recommend trying the Chicken Chili Verde, one of my favorite meals they offer!

#4 Purely Elizabeth Granola

High-quality product, amazing taste, AND you can re-zip the bag and take it anywhere— from the library to your bed side table (Netflix and granola), there’s no judgement here. For all my super cool food dudes, this product is also gluten-free, vegan, non-GMO, & organic. Pretty much God’s gift to Earth. You can most likely find this at your local Whole Foods market. There are tons of flavors to choose from- you won’t regret it!

#5 Siggi’s Probiotic Drinkable Non-fat Yogurt

Sounds weird- Tastes good. Sometimes in the mornings I don’t have time to make breakfast, or I might not feel very hungry. In these cases, these drinkable yogurts are perfect to take on the go with me and are easy to fill up on. This product is loaded with protein and 20% of your daily calcium needs. It is also packed with probiotics to support a healthy gut and is low in sugar content compared to other yogurt competitors.

If you get the chance, I hope you guys enjoy these products as much as I do! Also, I’m always looking to try new things so let me know if you have any recommendations for products that you like. Thanks friends— ’til next time.
